Bishop Woodlock’s Ring

Henry Woodlock was a medieval Bishop of Winchester. He was nominated about 29 January 1305 and consecrated on 30 May 1305. He died on 28 June or 29 June 1316.
His episcopal ring was found in his grave, in the choir of the cathedral and is considered to be the finest Gothic Episcopal rings in Europe. It is made of gold set with a stunning blue sapphire. The sapphire has been pierced for suspension and then plugged with gold.
It can be seen in the Winchester Cathedral Museum.
