Baptismal Font St Mary’s Bentley

The font is a square shape late C12th Norman. It stands on four corner pillars, each pillar topped with flutes and a central circular pillar. The whole has been raised onto a double step plinth. All four sides are decorated with four arches. It was restored in about 1890 and topped with an ornate font cover which is raised and lowered by a pulley system.

Our intention is to map as many Hampshire baptismal fonts as possible. Go to the post Hampshire Baptismal Fonts to see a list of those added to date.
