St Michael and All Angels Knights Enham

The church of St Michael and All Angels Knights Enham

The church was originally built in the 12th century but as you stand facing it from the road it becomes apparent that the south transept is missing, leaving the arches visible to the exterior. The church is beautifully positioned, in a small lane next to a farm. Although added to and obviously removed from, over the centuries, the essence of the early church remains and the return of the old font to its position in the nave.

Interesting things to look out for, the very pretty Victorian glass in the windows and the holes each side of the north door, into which a bar could be slotted should those inside need defending from those outside. On the exterior of the north wall there is an early, possibly 11th century carving of a head. The David Dewar bequest and painted inscriptions are also interesting relics.
