Priors Dean Church

Priors Dean Church with its attendant manor house sit in splendid isolation in Hampshire’s hangar country

There is no dedication to the church at Priors Dean and no sign of where its congregation might have come from, save for the manor house across the lane. It occupies a lonely and beautiful spot close to Edward Thomas’s Hampshire countryside.

Enter the C13th church through a Norman doorway and discover past worshipers from the Elizabethan brick  built manor house nearby. The distinguished families of the Comptons and the Tichbornes who held sway over this part of Hampshire have their monuments here.

One wonders who passed this way 700 years ago?
